First Student, Inc. (“First Student”), which owns and operates the software application FirstView™ App, understands and respects that you and your child are entitled to personal privacy. This statement summarizes First Student’s Privacy Policy regarding the collection of information through the software applications made available by us for use on or through computers and mobile devices (the “App”) and the use of that information. Our processing of your personal information is also subject to First Student’s Privacy Policy, available at https://firststudentinc.com/privacy-policy/.

 

Personal Information Collected

In order to provide services, First Student may collect the following personal information regarding students and their parents/guardians (hereinafter, “Personal Information”):

·         Name

·         Home address

·         Telephone number

·         Email Address

·         Date of Birth

·         Educational institution and code,  and student identification number for each child enrolled

Non-Personal Information Collected

First Student may also collect certain information that does not identify you individually, such as an Internet protocol ("IP") address, which is a numeric code used to communicate between your Internet service provider and the World Wide Web. Additionally, through your visits to the First Student websites and the App, First Student may gather browser and device information, demographic and other information provided by you, aggregated information and information regarding the date and time you access our site.

 

Children's Privacy and Information from Parents and Legal Guardians

We believe that protecting the privacy of children is very important. In accordance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), we do not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 13. If we discover we have received any information from a child under the age of 13 in violation of this policy and without first receiving verifiable parental consent, we will delete that information immediately.

 

If you submit any Personal Information relating to other people to First Student or your school district, you represent and warrant that you have the authority to do so and have obtained all necessary consents to permit us to use the information in accordance with this Privacy Policy statement. For example, if you are the legal guardian or foster parent of a child and you provide Personal Information about a child in your care, you warrant and represent to us that you have authority to disclose this child’s Personal Information to us.

 

How We May Use Personal Information

First Student recognizes the importance of maintaining the privacy of Personal Information and, therefore, our objective in using such information is to improve and enhance your experience with our websites and the App. To achieve this, First Student may use Personal Information to communicate with you regarding enhancements or changes to the App or our websites, conduct voluntary surveys to help us improve the App, respond to your questions or comments about the App, and deliver marketing communications to you about additional products and services offered by First Student or its trusted partners, unless you choose to opt out of receiving such marketing materials. First Student may also use Personal Information for business purposes such as security, payment processing, analytics, operations, fraud detection and prevention, reporting, making back-ups and legal compliance.

 

How We May Share Personal Information

 

As your school district is a key partner in the transportation of your child, First Student may share Personal Information with your school district. In addition, to deliver a first-rate experience, First Student may share Personal Information with third parties who perform support services on First Student’s behalf and who will be contractually restricted from using your child’s Personal Information in any manner other than in helping First Student to provide you with products and services available from First Student and trusted third parties. First Student will also disclose your Personal Information when it believes it is required or permitted by law.

 

What We Won’t Do with Personal Information

First Student recognizes the trust you place in us by sharing your child’s educational experience.  In furtherance of that relationship, please note that First Student will never sell or rent student information, will not engage in targeted advertising based on student Personal Information, won’t amass a profile about any student other than for supporting authorized educational/school purposes, and won’t disclose student Personal Information, except as provided by law.

 

Use of “Cookies”

Cookies are small text files written to your computer when you visit websites. You have the option of setting your browser to refuse Cookies on this or any other site. However, if you refuse cookies, you will not be able to use all of the key functions on this website. This website does not use cookies as spy-ware, key-loggers or to in any other way track or capture user information.

 

Security

First Student follows reasonable security procedures and practices, in accordance with industry standards, to protect your and your child’s Personal Information from unauthorized access, destruction, use, modification or disclosure. For example, First Student uses secure socket layer (SSL) encryption to protect Personal Information you submit to us through the App or website. School districts have the right to direct First Student to disable user access for any reason concerning the safety, security or wellbeing of a student. To utilize the App, authorized parents and guardians will need to receive the proper credentials from their educational institution.  First Student will not provide a child’s Personal Information to users of the App. 

 

Cross-Border Transfer

First Student may store and process your Personal Information in any country where we have facilities or in which we engage service providers, and, by using the App, you consent to the transfer of information to countries outside of your country of residence, including the United States, which may have different data protection rules than those of your country.

 

Changes to this Policy

From time to time, First Student may make changes to its Privacy Policy in order to accommodate new technologies, industry practices, regulatory requirements or for other purposes. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy statement periodically to ensure that you understand how we use, share and protect information. Any changes to the Privacy Policy will become effective when the revision is posted on our website or the App. By continuing to use the App following such changes, you are agreeing to accept the terms of the revised Privacy Policy.
